Most people don’t typically think of competitive eating and endurance sports at the same time. But Yasir Salem competes at a high level in both, and sometimes both take place at the same time.

Yasir ran his first marathon in 2010 with his wife, and now they make running the New York City Marathon an annual tradition. He is also an avid cyclist and triathlete. He finished his first Ironman in 2013 and is now a 4x IRONMAN finisher.

Yasir is the #12 ranked competitive eater in the world, as ranked by Major League Eating. He once ate 47 ears of corn in 12 minutes and won the world corn eating championship and set the world record. He has also won the world cannoli eating championship and competed in the Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest.

These events award the rider who can ride fast and eat a ton of donuts. In the 2017 Donut Derby, he ate 61 donuts while riding over 36 miles for a ‘donut adjusted time’ of -31 minutes. This requires an individualized and unique training approach combining specific elements of endurance sports and competitive eating.
